A silver birch tree was planted outside Television Centre for the year 2000. Under this tree was buried a box (on Monday, June 7th, 1971) for the presenters of Blue Peter to dig up in 29 years time - in the box was put souvenirs from Blue Peter of that day in 1971. The box was lead lined, to be completely waterproof, screwed down at all four corners, and sealed up with an impression of the Blue Peter ship, so that no one could open it up without being discovered. Blue Peter Time Capsule, in the grounds of Television Centre the - team plant a Silver Birch tree and commemorate the millennium by burying a time capsule containing items of contemporary culture. The capsule is to be opened in the year 2000.
